Scarlet’s Blue

Scarlet was lost,
having sex with a homeless man,
again,
looking for love in all the wrong places
was an understatement for her.

She had looked out the window
and couldn’t see the future,
living a whole lifetime in the space between
waking up and leaving home
that morning.

She slips her fingers in her ears,
thinking it’s the right thing to do,
as she floats away,
above the city
past cafes and nightclubs,
towards the sea.
