Man

A vague approximation,
an amorphous representation,
unrefined and lax.
Like a child’s crayon drawing
dreaming to be sculpted of marble.
To be statuesque and chiseled,
confident in my appearance.
Vain dreams of being Utopian
instead of boilerplate.
My substance distorted.
To rip open my abdomen,
to nip, tuck and rip myself,
to shave off my humiliation!
All aspects of it!
Then my reflection
won’t stare back at me
with those disappointed eyes,
haunted by forebears.
